Samsung CDRW/DVD Not Working

Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324F Not Working!

The cd/dvd drive won't read any cd/dvd. My computer continually acts as if there is a black cd in the drive. No matter what type of cd or dvd placed in the drive, it wont work. Put a disc in, and the cd light flashes 3 times, and thats it.

Any ideas?

I can read discs intermittently. I have the same issues as you...

When I insert a CD, the drive light blinks for a while, but if I go to 'My Computer', Windows says there is no disc in the drive.

DVD's are a lost cause for me! The drive spools-up and down for a couple of minutes, the light blinks, and nothing happens.

My friend just bought a new drive....problem fixed!

Hi.

I have a 5150 aswell. It has been going for about 2 weeks now. I was using it alot for reading music cds, and i thought it was excesive use, but it doesn't make sense. Can you read discs at anytime? What has your friend done about it?

Chris,

I am experiencing the exact some problem! It has been going on now for a couple of months.

Which model do you have? I have a 5150. A friend of mine had the same problem with a 5100, and he told me that Dell had said to him that the drive was not working due to his excessive CD writing.

Doesn't make sense to me...

My thoughts exactly, and I am out of warranty...figures...

Check out my other post that I just put up about five minutes ago. I'm hoping to get a DVD burner this time around.

The Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324F is a piece of junk. We purchased 25 Latitude D505's for our company and have experienced problems reading data on CD-R's, DVD+R's, and video of focus groups on DVD and video CD.

Why doesn't Dell list the Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324F in the downloads section for support of our laptops? Why doesn't updated firmware and drivers exist on the Dell Support site?

Quality job Dell!!! (That's sarcasm for those of you translating English at the Dell Support Center. I'm not really saying, "good job".)

Hi.  I just looked on ebay, and found another drive, but made by a different company, look under dell *model and number* and just see what you can find, it was about £50 for a new drive.

Happy hunting.

I'm in the same boat as you guys.  My Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324-F stopped working about 3 weeks ago - similar problems to what you describe.  By the time I called on it, it was 6 days out of warranty.  It's enough to make me never buy a Dell computer or product again.  What have you guys done since your drives quit working?
