Send ECC alerts to event viewer.

There are a number of steps required to get ECC to pass alerts onto an external framework.

Firstly, you need to deploy the integration gateway agent to be able to send SNMP traps out. When you deploy the agent, it will ask for the IP address of the trap recipient.

Second, you also need to create a management policy that has "notify user *" and "notify SNMP" as actions.

Lastly, assign the managment policy to the alerts you wish to have external notification for.

You also might need to download the appropriate package for your framework which is available from the same location as the console install.

If you need some more info you might check out the controlcenter integration packages product guide and even the ECC help is surprisingly good (launch from the console)

Thanks, but that was not what I was Iooking to get answered. There is a file on the infrastructure server that has a keyword that is = to a location that needs to be set to make the ecc alerts show up in the event viewer log file. I cannot remember where that gets changed.

Can you confirm the version and patchlevel of ControlCenter in which this question relates too?

Using Control Center 6.0.0.0.33 - GA33

I can't find anything in the reference material that indicates you can do what you want. I used the online help from the ControlCenter Console and just can't find anything that would indicate we can configure a management policy to send alerts to the system or application event logs.

Were you told by someone it's possible? or is it just a general question to see if it was possible.

At this stage I'd say it doesn't look possible in the release you state. Unless of course I find something else to indicate otherwise. Will keep an open mind incase I come across something further to indicate it's possible.

I'll open a webcase with EMC. Yes, we have done it before on our infrastructure server to send EMC ECC alerts to the event viewer. This allows us to use Tivoli to scan the flat file for autoticketing.

It has been awhile since I have done it and I cannot find it in my notes.

Probably you are looking for CNG.ini file if I get you right. The location for this file is usually D:\ECC\exec\CNG520 (for ECC 5.2 SP4).

Excellent, now we have something to reference against.

To have ControlCenter send alerts to a Windows Event Log and display in the Event Viewer, do the following:

1. Make a backup copy of the cng.ini file. This file is found in the following location:
   
   C:\ECC\exec\CNG520\cng.ini
   
   
2. Open the "original" cng.ini file for editing in an appropriate plain-text editor (do not use MS Word or other formatting word processor).
3. Change the NT_EventLog_Key = none line to the following:
   
   NT_EventLog_Key = EMC_Alarms
   
4. • If the NT_EventLog_Key line does not exist, create it.
     
5. Create a new management policy and add it to the alert you want to post to the Windows Event Viewer. This is done as follows:
   
6. 1. In the ControlCenter Console tree panel, select Administration --> Alert definitons.
   2. Highlight the desired alert, then right-click on the highlighted alert and select Edit Alert.
   3. Select the Actions tab and select New under the Management Policy section.
   4. In the section of the new management policy dialog for ECC User add *, add Notify SNMP & ECC User.
      
      
7. Install and configure the Integration Packages application and gateway agent. To have ControlCenter alerts display in Windows Event Logs, the system must use the Integration Packages application to send the alerts through SNMP to the Windows Event Log. See the ControlCenter Planning and Installation guide and the Integration Packages Product Guide (both available on Powerlink) for instructions on installing and configuring the required Integration Packages and the gateway agent to support the Windows Event Log integration.
