How to use SYMGATE Define Command??

I am new to symcli commands and looking for some help on symgate. I need to define gatekeepers on a server but not having any luck

If I do a symgate list command I get =
#symgate list
No GateKeeper devices were found.

If I run the symgate define command I get =
# symgate -sid 4348 define dev 00B0

The physical device with the specified name cannot be found

What am I missing here?? Help!!

Yes I am running the commands from the server that the Gatekeepers were assigned to it is a Solaris server. I did have to rename the WWN for the HBA as it was not seen on the symmask list login command.

Would a reboot help this Solaris server?? I did run symcfg discover but still getting the same error. Just not sure why this server is not seeing the devices I have masked. Am I missing a step after masking the devices??

Thank you!!

what version of Solaris? What HBAs and drivers are you using ? If you are using Emulex cards with Emulex drivers ..did you configure sd.conf and lpfc.conf ?

Can you verify that your gatekeeper device is actually masked to a host? It may be mapped to the FA but it needs to be masked to the host.

I got the same issue:

Devices mapped and masked to server. Server able to see the devices (on inq and ioscan's outputs), but got the same error again and again.

After issuing a symcfg discover, I was able to define devices as gk without problems.

Alex
