Looking for Doc. / Procedure for Replacing a HBA

Hi:

Server: HP rp3440 / 11.11 / PA - Risc
Array: DMX 3
SAN Switch : Brocade Silworm 48000

So here's the thing. This kind of procedure is being passed down like folklore from one 'left-the-company-admin' to another. And now I have the need to replace a bad HBA on the server and update the SAN environment with the new WWN of the new HBA. Quesiton: Does anybody have an EMC doc for this?

Basically following off of what dynamox posted...

Record WWN of current HBA
Record WWN of NEW HBA
Determine Port that host is connected to on Fabric
Replace HBA
Verify NEW HBA has logged into fabric - "switchshow" from command line or "nodefind $NEWWWN"

The next part can be done from the command line but I would recommend the GUI
Launch the GUI
From the GUI select Zone Admin
If you have aliases you should see them in a drop down, select the alias for the HBA you are replacing, select remove member, then expand out the ports and attached devices, the switch, the slot and then expand out the port to the second level, this will be the port wwn, select this WWN and select add member.

If you do not use aliases go to the Zone tab and repeat the same process as above just for each zone that this host is used in.

Once you have completed all of that you can either create a new zone config and load all the zones into it that you are using or just re-enable the existing zone set. This should be non-disruptive, but if you have a maintenance window, it is not a bad idea to use that.

Once that is enabled you should see the new WWN logged into your DMX on the FA(s) it is zoned to, you can run a "symmask -sid $SYMID list logins -wwn $NEWWWN" to see the ports it has been connected to.

Once you have verified that it has connected run the command dynamox has "symmask -sid 123 replace old_WWN new_WWN" to replace the old WWN

Then rescan on the host.

i am not sure if there is a one document that would explain the steps. I would follow HP procedures to replace the HBA, then fix your switch zoning where old WWN gets replaced with new WWN. Hopefully you are using aliases ..so that should be easy (update alias, re-enable switch config). After that you would use 'symmask -sid 123 replace old_WWN new_WWN) command to replace old wwn with new wwn. And last step would be to 'ioscan, insf' and make sure LVM is happy.

I like the alias thing. And this is on the switch? For a brocade silkworm 48000 what would be the steps / commands ?

So, I am looking at the commands for 'licenseshow' and 'licenseadd' with reboot of the switch or something else? Truly, I need a step by step here.

get rid of it , you may store it somewhere for documentation purposes but you wont need it anymore, hopefully you will toss this HBA out anyway ..before somebody grabs it and puts it into another system.

ok ..Before we proceed let me ask you first question. Are you allowed to make zone changes during the day ? Because after we are done we will need to re-activate zoneset configuration, typically it's a non eventful process but some shops have very funky systems (typically really old systems) where zoneset re-activation may cause disruption.
