Mount bcv to mount host using RM 5.1
I already posted this to the RM forum but thought I would post it here as well as most of my questions are related to how the mount of bcvs/clones on a DMX work.
Environment:
DMX-4 5772.83
RM 5.1
Windows Server 2003
I have a job in RM that clones 7 metas to bcvs on a nightly basis. This works fine. I would like to start mounting the bcvs to a development server daily for test and development access. I have done this with Clariions before, but am not as familiar with the process on the DMX.
The dev server is already masked to a couple FA ports and has gatekeepers assigned to it, and is running all the required software.
I have not been able to find the answers to my questions in either the RM5.1 Admin Guide, Product Guide, or SE TimeFinder guide.
Questions:
1. Do I need to mask the bcv volumes to the FA ports the dev server is masked to before attempting to mount the bcv volumes in RM?
2. If I want to mount the volumes read/write are the writes actually written to the bcv volumes or to SAV volumes?
3. Do I need to mask anything else to the mount host? SAV volumes? VDEVs?
Thanks,
Aran

yes, you need to map and mask BCVs to the same FAs the dev host is connected to.
2. If I want to mount the volumes read/write are the writes actually written to the bcv volumes or to SAV volumes?
once you split BCVs from STD ...BCVs will be come read/write enabled and write will go to them. Same applies to Clones. Now with Snaps ..all writes will go to SAVE pool while reads will come from STD volumes...thus affect performance.
3. Do I need to mask anything else to the mount host? SAV volumes? VDEVs?
just the BCVs or Clones ..whatever you decide to use. If you are doing SNAPs ..then map and mask VDEVS.

I can barely keep up with Stargate SG-1 episodes, let alone the EMC support forums...

Almost every other show I love is not "on air" .. we are waiting for brand new episodes .. CSI:Miami and CSI:NY will start shortly a new season .. So maybe in the future you won't see me on the forums at night
