From the above output I can see the product model as
1000-M2. But i just want to know what is the serial
number of symmetrix and Array Family or Array Type.

Symmetrix ID is considered as serail number or last
four digits of ID considered as serail number.
Because Calriion has serial number any storage device
has unique serial number.

Please let me knowif you need any info

common Stefano ..i expected more from you :). Don't you know the magic symcli command that will tell me what floor my DMX3 is located on ? :)

I've put an RFE (request for enhancement) ..

I've asked to put a GPS module inside every box so that the customer will be able to issue the brand new "symgps" command and have both a trusted time source and a correct localization of the box. With a simple perl script it will be possible to have a nice google-map with the image of the building where the storage is located...

The only drawback is that you need to leave at least an open window in the room so that the GPS module can receive signals from the satellites.

Unfortunatly I'm unable to obtain the level of the ground and combine with the GPS data to obtain the number of the floor where the box is located ... any suggestion ??

;-)

looks like you have thought about it more then i have ..i have no clue ;)

we need to contact our wonderful resources at NSA or FBI ..i am sure they already have the technology. EMC just needs to make another acquisition to make it happen. Maybe in code 73 ?

Thanks a lot for your reply. So you are telling that the last three digits of Symmetrix ID is considered as the serial number. Also I am having following doubts

We have following property need to be populated from SymCLI.
1. Array Family
2. Array Type
3. Product name

If i do Symcfg list -sid 000187431362 -v

output:
=====
[Symmetrix ID: 000187431362
Time Zone : Eastern Daylight Time

Product Model : 1000S-M2
Symmetrix ID : 000187431362

Microcode Version (Number) : 5670 (16260000)
Microcode Date : 01.26.2007

Microcode Patch Date : 01.26.2007
Microcode Patch Level : 99]

In the above output i am getting Array model as 1000-M2. Can you please tell me what is the Array family and product name for the above symmetrix array.Or Array family and product name is same as Product Model property. Or Is there is any separate CLI for that. Please correct me if i am wrong.

000187431362 is your serial number, but usually last four numbers are unique that you can use that to reference your array when you call support etc. Somebody correct me if i missed anything.

So product name is Symmetrix

Families are:

» Symmetrix 3000
» Symmetrix 5000
» Symmetrix 8000
» Symmetrix DMX

Versions for each family:

» Symmetrix 3000

Symmetrix 4.0 (models : 3330, 3430, 3700, 3700-47 )

Symmetrix 4.8 (models: 3630, 3830, 3930 )

» Symmetrix 5000

Symmetrix 4.0 (models : 5330, 5430, 5700, 5700-47 )

Symmetrix 4.8 (models: 5630, 5830, 5930 )

» Symmetrix 8000

Symmetrix 5.0 (models : 8430, 8730-36 )

Symmetrix 5.5 (models: 8230, 8530, 8830 )

Thanks a lot for your reply. The assumption is that Symmetrix ID and serial number is same.

How do we get Symmetrix family information from SymCLI?

Regards
Naren

Naren23, Dynamox already supplied a list of families with some example of "Product Model". If you want, you can show us the output of the symcfg command and we'll help you answering your questions.

Naren look above .. Dynamox already declined all the Symmetrix/DMX families and some of their members .. :-)

Look at the previous posts... There are different families and a lot of members for each family.
