did you have a specific task in mind? the symconfigure does things in 3 steps so you can get a warm/fuzzy b4 you commit

Bob, the right question is "Is there a DMX simulator?" :-) .. If you want to emulate the behaviour of a symmir command or a symrdf command you need to emulate the microcode, the disks of the backend .. maybe you want to emulate a pair of boxes (to use symrdf) ..

I don't think there is such an emulator .. But I would be happy to be wrong :-) !!

There is a DMX emulator that EMC uses. They were using it at EMC World when demonstrating their products. In particular, they were demo'ing Symmetrix Management Console (SMC) using this.

It would be EXTREMELY helpful to have. Especially when creating and testing various scripts and programs against SYMCLI.

To my knowledge it is not available for GA.

It is a tool the EMC uses internally. I do not believe that they will release it to any one outside of EMC. I know I could use it myself....

AFAIK there is a SMC simulator .. But this isn't a symcli/dmx simulator. You can't issue symcli commands against the SMC simulator.

Hmmm.....

That was not my understanding two years ago, when they were first demonstrating SMC. In fact, we got on the discussion of changing some of the option file settings within SE, but I do not work for EMC, so I will have to take your word for it. :-)

I do work for EMC but I'm not an SMC expert ;-)

Since SMC relies on SE, maybe you discussed abount changing SE "options" file to point to a symapi server on a different host when you want to manage different storages from a single point whithout zoning a single host to many boxes..

But I'm just wondering ;-)

No, AFAIK. It's only a demo that EMC personnel can show to customer willing to see SMC in action.

Maybe it's my poor english or my bad grammar .. but SMC demo is not available AFAIK for you to download. You need to ask your TC / AM and ask him/her to show you a demo. :-)

well I think SMC (Symetrix Management Console) is diferent from ECC (EMC Control Center), the bad thing is that you can download the simulator if you buy Control Center foundations.
