symapisrv and service processor---urgent
Hi all,
Need your help to clear the following confusion.
We have a DMX4 and one server (does not have a fibre and is not connnected directly to symmetrix) . Now we need to install ECC and solutions enabler.
As per solutions enabler we need one directly connected host via scsi/fibre to symmetrix and should be running symaipsrv and other solutions enabler compoents and if needed agents.
Question : Is it possible to run symapisrv on Symmetrix Service processor? Can we also install symcli and whole solutions enabler pack on SP?
Is it possible to install the agents on SP , like Master Agent, Agent for Symmetrix etc.
Question : If we can't install any thing on SP then we will have to buy fibre card in for the server and connect it via switch as there has to be one server directly connected. Is it ok to connect it via switch??
Question : Is it advisable to install all ECC components and all solutions enabler components on the same server ?? guess what i also have to install Fabric Manager and Device Manager on the same server . Do you guys think its too much. Environment is only 1 DMX4 and 30 servers with SRDF/A and similar on COB site.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,

You can not install anything on service processor. If you have VMAX, you can run SMC from SP but that's about it, it's pre-installed by EMC and you as a customer can not connect to SP directly.
It's ok to connect it via fiber channel switch, you actually want to do that so you can use this FA port for other hosts as well.
I have all ECC components installed on one server , Win2k3, 2.7Ghz, 4 gig of memory. It runs fine, i am mostly using it for storage alerts and performance gathering. I did not deploy any hosts agents. I have fabric/device manager running in a VM, not sure if you want to install it on the same host as ECC as ECC uses tomcat server for ecc console and i think so does fabric manager for Cisco performance manager ...might get conflicts.

If you're comfortable with Symcli then go ahead and use this to manage the VMAX. However you'll need to master the symaccess command for initiator groups / port groups and storage groups.
Have a look at emc212715. We had this implemented by EMC via dialup to enable out of band management access direct to the VMAX SP (and you can fire up SMC directly over IP).
For long term use, get a gatekeeper and SMC on a FC attached host.
Thanks.
Scott.
