Symmetrix 8530 Fn Tach Problem

Hi,

I have a problem with fan tachometer of Symmetrix 8530, error code is 0471 and 0472. PSE Guy told me to replace Fan Tach2 (p/n: 045-000-068) but after replace the fan problem didn¿t solved. I¿ve checked the pins and connections, have swapped the fans and problem stays in the slot fan tach2, and then PSE told me that the cable needs to be replaced. (p/n cable is : 038-001-629), and cable should be replaced by OFFLINE activity (box should be power down). Is there another parts except the cable? Is anyone had experience about this, do we need to replace power supply first (without power down the box) ? Thanks.

The part may be Dead On Arrival. Confirm the status of the powersupply by doing two things:
1. check the voltmeter settings using a voltmeter.
2. run the enovironmental test from symwin.

Usually customers don't replace spare parts in a Symmetrix .. Am I wrong ?? :-)

I'm sorry ... I don't think I have something for you.

widi,

As I read your entry question I have a few of questions:

1. Are you a self maintaining Customer?
2. Are you a Partner or EMC Employee? (from your ID, it does not appear so)
3. Have you also done a search in the Knowledge Base for your issue?

Comments or suggestions:

1. If you are working with a PSE and the Support Center, stay on that road and they can help you through any questions, parts and recommendations.
2. Search the Knowledge Base for specifics like the error code, part number and 'fan tach'.

Thanks all,
I'm a partner of EMC and usually maintain EMC product. I have opened SR# 20197754, and have got support from PSE.
I raised this question is maybe somebody have an experience about fan tach replacement.
Should we do power on reset Symmetrix to reset the fan?
I have swapped with the other fan, and the fan is OK.
We will schedule to replace fan cable, but I'm not sure can solve the problem.
Need your advice..
Thanks.

widi,

I looked at the SR and see that the support centre is working with you on a lot of avenues with this issue. Last entry was a few days ago. Have there been progress in the cable replacement? I don't want to add to the work or change direction of it, but did they talk about checking the EPO card seating and/or switch settings? Just a thought.

When you do search in Knowledge Link, what access level to you have? Reason why I ask, the Solutions or Articles that the PSE's are working from for this issue, I have linked them to the SR.
