Unconvert R1 with 2 R2's (Concurrent)
Hi guys,
Will i be able to run "unconvert dev XXXX to RAID-5" command where my XXXX is R1 with 2 R2's. Concurrent RDF relationship.
if i am allowed , then whats's the outcome of this . Will both R2's will get converted to STD devs ??
I wont be able to run "symrdf -file -rdfg X " because i dont have "dyn_rdf" bit enabled on symm. All done through BIN load by EMC.
Any help will be appreciated.

An alternative would be to convert dynamic RDF then run a delete pairs.
Good luck...

If you have dynamic concurrent RDF relation, you can simply issue a "symrdf deletepair" statement with appropriate rdfg option and pair-file.

My problem is i have Static SRDF relationship betweeen R1 on Box-A and R2 on Box-B through bin file.
No i am planning to have dynamic RA relationship between Box-A and new Box-c .
So will i be able to run "symrdf create pair " for R1 on box A with R2 Box C ??? (IMP thing is This is same R1 on Box-A which is already in Static RDF pair with Box-B ).
So i will have R1 on Box-A which is having one Static relationship with Box-B and dynamic Relatioship with Box-C..
I think its doable. By enabling synamic on Box A and new box C. Still i need your inputs
Now later i want to unconvert devices after spliting both relationship Static ( A-> B ) and Dynamic ( A-> C ) .
In Dynamic i can do unconvert by symrdf deletepair ..
Only question is will i be able run "unconvert dev XXX" for devices that are in Static RDF relationship because that was done by EMC through BIN Load.
So i need to ask EMC to cleanup or i can do it myself through symconfigure (command line).

are you sure we can use symconfigure to "enable dynamic_rdf " on both the boxes A-B and not require a bin load to convert the devices to dyn_rdf from static ?
It didn't work in our same environment, we were told to do it via Bin Load to convert the devices in static rdf mode.
B/w A-C is fine, once you can convert all devices in A as dyn_rdf.

But you can enable dynamic_rdf in both boxes (using symconfigure), convert existing A-B pairs to dynamic (again using symconfigure), add dyn_rdf flag to devices in box-C (again: symconfigure) and finally create concurrent dynamic pairs from A to C using symrdf. You also need an existing RDF group between A and C.
Since now you are using only dynamic RDF you can "unconvert" (remove RDF pairs) with usual symrdf command

- static concurrent RDF
- conversion of a processor between RF and FA
- conversion of a RF processor to switched

You can change the following symmetrix metrix using symconfigure:
Obviously OnlySandy have to enable all of them.
You can use symconfigure to convert a static pair to a dynamic pair without a full establish:
You can use symconfigure to add dyn_rdf flag to non-rdf devices:
Unfortunatly I don't know your environment. Thus can't figure out why someone told you to request a binfile change. I bet he/she had good reasons
