Dell 2162DS Serial Port Access
Hello,
I have been gifted a couple of Dell 2162DS KVM switches. One of them seems to have had a bad flash update, so I will need to access the Serial Console to correct this. The symptom is that I get no output to the VGA port, and the rear power LEDs continually flash. (Steadily, not SOS.)
I have hooked up my laptop serial port to the switch using the adapter and RJ45 cable from the Remote Console T-serial SIP POD Cable Kit (Dell part number 80DH7), but I am getting nothing in TeraTerm. The settings are 9600,N,8,1,None per the instructions and everything I have found online. I get the same exact nothing out of the other completely functional 2162DS. The instructions I have mention using the "flat" cable connected to the DB9 adapter, but it didn't come with a flat cable, only (2) 568B wired cables...
When I use a rollover cable instead of the supplied 568B wired cables, I get a lot of random characters in TT. I have tried EVERY available baud rate in TT using both the rollover and Ethernet cables in the off chance that the published baud rate was incorrect to no avail. This leads me to think that I simply need a correctly wired RJ-45 cable to connect to the supplied adapter, but I can find nothing showing the correct pinout.
Has anyone out there with one of these family of KVM switches (1082/2162/4322DS) successfully accessed the console port? If so, is the cable straight 1-1, Crossover, Rollover, or some other wiring scheme? I have seen several other questions out there on how to actually access the serial console port, but they seem to be unanswered or answered by "Replace the switch" responses.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hello
That cable kit is not in the supported list of the 2162DS. I show it is for a 2161.
The flat cable is part of kit part number 3JY78.
Thanks

No.
The kit also includes an RJ45 to DB9 adapter.
Thanks

Daniel, thank you for the reply/assist.
Odd, I may be mistaken on the Dell part number. The instructions included do specifically state they are how to connect to the 1082DS, 2162DS, or 4322DS. The instruction sheet part number is 40F8T.
Do you happen to know the pinout of the "flat cable" included in 3JY78?
Thanks.

The DE9-RJ-45 adapter and rollover cable included in Kit 3JY78 worked, and I was able to change to the alternate firmware. Both firmware loads have been updated and the unit now works perfectly.
Thank you for all your help.
