Drac 5 console and virtual media not working from Firefox on Linux
Good day,
I am trying to access the console and virtual media features of a PE2950iii server with a Drac 5 with latest 1.65 firmware from a Linux Mint client running Firefox 27.
I had no luck whatsoever with the plugin and am now trying the java applet. Using the java applet I can successfully open a virtual console and see what is on the screen, however, it does not respond to any of my keystrokes (or macro keystrokes from the menu).
Trying to launch the virtual media java applet is worse as that does not even start. I get the following error:

Think I have this mostly figured out. I just tore the system apart and reseated the 2 DRAC cables. Rebooted and now my keyboard works! I should have been tipped off because before my text was like a greenish color, but after the reseat it is a typical white font like if I had a monitor hooked up to the machine.
So from Firefox 27 on Linux Mint 16 with Java 7, I can run the Java console and it seems to work fine. The virtual media still does not seem to work. I get an error when launching it. It does launch on my Windows 7 client though.

I was using OpenJDK, I just tried installing Oracle's Java (7 u51) and get the same results. No response to keystrokes from the console and the virtual media fails with the error I posted above.

Hi,
Try changing the settings for how Java handles the file type. under Edit > Preferences, navigate to the applications tab, and change the Content Type JNLP file from ‘always ask’ to ‘use javaws’
What version of Java are you running?

Are you using a 64 bit browser? Does your account have write permissions in the browser's folder? Can you attach the virtual media from CLI ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_electronics/esuprt_software/esuprt_remote_ent_sys_mgmt/dell-remote-access-cntrllr-5-v1.60_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Try the following to see if you can get it to open properly that way.
Save the jnlp file in /tmp. then run
/path/to/sun-jdk/javaws /tmp/ .jnlp

Same problem. The virtual media gives the same error. The console won't connect now (it says login failure).

I've just installed WIndows 7 x64 and tried to use IE8 32bit. Console (java and plugin) shows video output but keyboard still does not work. The virtual media Java applet now launches. I have not tried insert an ISO yet.

Figured out the virtual media issue. I had 64 bit Java installed. Installing the 32-bit version got it working. Interestingly, if I launch the console with 32-bit java, keyboard input stops working. 64-bit java works fine so I just have to make sure I launch the console/virtual meadia with the appropriate java platform.
