Thanks for posting!  First, put the DRAC in the trusted sites zone, and pull the security down to Low.  Then click Custom Level... and enable all ActiveX controls.  Usually that will get the plugin to load from the DRAC.  If it doesn't work, make sure your DRAC firmware is up to date.

I have the same problem on several servers with DRAC5.

I have tried to apply you suggestions but without success. I have the problem also on systems where previously I had not.

For example on my notebook I have used this ActiveX several times but now I can't. I have IE7 and it is simple crashes and exit without the message above. On Windows 2000 and 2003 servers I have the error message above. I guess it is related to a Microsoft patch or something like this which was applied around the end of May or beginnin of June because I had no problem before.

For workaround I changed the Plug-in Type to Java.

Exact same problem on a Windows 2008 server (32bits) or Win2k3 server, both with IE8, Native plug-in mode. Tried turn on/enable all ActiveX still no luck. It's a new DRAC card, firmware is 1.45. Any other suggestion besides try Java vm plugin?

Same here. This appears to be AFTER I did a DRAC firmware upgrade to the "latest/greatest." AND, the problem is in IE, [NOT] firefox!

The problem STARTED AFTER I ran successful DRAC console connection in FireFox, now it no longer works in IE. Firefox did the appropriate download and so forth.

One person previously posted that you must check the box for 'attach virtual media,' but that has NOTHING to do with this issue.

My settings also show "native mode," and I will change that to Java mode and see what happens. This did NOT fix the issue - so it is NOT a workaround.

So really, this worked fine, up until about 2 days ago, when I used FireFox to get to the console; after I upgraded to the lates DRAC firmware.

My only fix was to go back to FireFox, since it had worked most recently - and it 'properly' downloaded the Java KVM plug-in. I don't have a proxy, so that's not an issue. It does appear, in IE, to prompt with a UAC-like prompt, "Need to download java component from Internet, are you sure," then I do "yes" and nothing happens.

FireFox just WORKS. Now, I definitely need to update to the latest Java JRE standalone, and reboot, then try IE again but, for me, FireFox is a fine workaround, for now.

This seems to be related only to the previous DRAC firmware plugin existing at the same time the new DRAC console redirect Active-X plugin in Internet Explorer.

I fixed this issue in my case by going to Manage Add-Ons in Internet Explorerr and disabling the 3.1.1.101 plugin and leaving the 3.1.1.117 plugin enabled.  It is listed under "Not Verified" and shows as made by Avocent corporation.  This must be the version installed when you have the DRAC5 with 1.65 firmware, but the old one is never removed.

It is neither of the settings of software it actually has to do with your port forwarding for the kvm drac function to work and route properly normally is port 5900-5901 TCP protocol. just thought I helped out good luck hope this shines a light on the issue.

To fix this issue make sure you put the DRAC into your Internet Explorer's compatibility view list. This will resolve the issue and allow Native ActiveX control.
