Expanding RAID5 on T310 using OpenManage
Hi,
I'm looking to increase the capacity of a RAID5 array in a PE T310 server. It had four 1TB HDDs and the Virtual Disk is 2.7TB.
I have replaced the drives (one by one) with 2TB drives and each time allowed the Rebuild to complete so the Virtual Disk is in tact. I'm now looking to Reconfigure the Virtual Disk using OpenManage 9.3 on Linux.
When I go through the steps, it recognises the four disks with 931GB of free space each but on the next page of the wizard the only option is RAID0.
The final page of the wizard is a summary with a Finish button which I'm reluctant to press as the configuration doesn't seem right.

Does anyone know if this is correct and it's just an odd way to display it or is it going to screw up my RAID5 array?
I've got a backup of the important data so I could just press Finish and have to reinstall the OS if it goes wrong but I thought I'd ask first in case anyone know better.

Hello,
Thank you for choosing Dell, and welcome to our community.
I wanted to check whether you were able to "delete the previous RAID configuration" and create a new one. As far as we know, that is the required method to rebuild the configuration, and based on the steps you described, it seems this may not have been completed in that way.
If you have any further questions or need guidance on the process, please feel free to let us know.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
No I haven't removed the existing RAID configuration as (ideally) I don't want to lose the data. I just want to extend the capacity of the RAID5 array (not change the RAID level) by swapping the drives for larger capacity drives and then changing the RAID configuration.
I realise this is an older RAID card but I'm surprised it can't handle a simple increase in capacity. What is the point of the Reconfigure option if it can't process such a simple task?

Hi,
this feature is for adding more disks not larger or changing Raid 1 to RAID 5. but generaly never change your RAID config without having a backup.
