How do you deploy OMSA to remote server and install

Numerous ways to do this. Using IT Assistant should be the easiest assuming you don't already have a SW deployment solution such as SMS so I'd recommend giving it a try first. IT Assistant 8.0 (November 2006) was the first version to offer OMSA deployment but since you are running 8.1 here's the section describing it in that User's Guide - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smitasst/8.1/en/ug/softdepl.htm#1056897.

I tried using the guide in "http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smitasst/8.1/en/ug/softdepl.htm#1056897" and it worked for some and not for others.

I setup 2 tasks one to deploy the full package and the other to update existing omsa clients as there seemed to be some servers with old versions on that i didn't know off and were not being picked up by the openmanage assistant.

i am still having problems with half of my servers sitting under the "unknown" group under devices? Thus making it less managable, i have checked the servers themselves and omsa is installed on them and they are comming up as "power edge xxxx" in the system model type in IT Assistant, is there something else i can try to force them into the "servers" group?

any help is much appreciated.

Servers show up as "unknown" when IT Assistant isn't able to identify them via the network protocols it's configured to use. It may be something as simple as SNMP being incorrectly configured.

To find out what's going on, right click on an "unknown" server and launch the troubleshooting tool. It will go through all the protocols to identify which one isn't repsonding properly.
