Hi, the Virtual Console uses web languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS to create the user interface and communicate with the server. Dell uses these web languages to set up the keyboard in the Virtual Console because it’s a reliable, flexible, secure, and scalable way to manage servers and devices remotely.

Hi,

When you’re using the iDRAC virtual console, it usually defaults to an English (US) keyboard layout. To fix this, you can set your browser’s language to English and then manually adjust the server’s keyboard layout to match your own keyboard. If some characters still aren’t working, you can use the virtual keyboard feature in the iDRAC console to type them in.

Hope that helps!

Does the same issue occur if you set the language to English?

Still wondering this.....

I have the same problem, with IDRAC9 on a new R440 server.

I access it from a Mac with a Swiss-German keyboard, from Firefox browser.

The keyboard in the virtual console (html5 mode) assume however an ascii English keyboard mapping.

This is inconvenient, if I have to do remote work through the iDRAC console.

Can it be switched from English keyboard map to Swiss-German?

same Problem for me, german keyboard layout.

the "display keyboard" is a nice workaround for such kind of problems, but there are missing keys!

e.g.: |

this is essential in linux system administartion!

Hello Stanley_appel,

If you have faced an issue virtual console or keyboard. Before please ensure your iDRAC firmware up to date. You can try to soft reset iDRAC https://dell.to/3fg6czj You can check Configuring Web Browsers to Use Virtual Console in iDRAC manual page on 61 https://dell.to/321uidd

Let us know if it helps

Hi all!

I would also like to complain about this. Keyboard handling on iDRAC HTML5 KVM is a real nightmare.

For what I understand, the HTML5 KVM will lookup your browser language settings, and determine a keyboard layout based on that. Which is a terrible idea.

For example, if my browser language is set to French, the visual keyboard will be AZERTY (which is the weirdest keyboard on earth, and is used in France only. All other french-speaking regions use other keyboards).

My only workaround I know that almost works:

- Ensure my browser language is set to English

- Put my local computer keyboard map to US standard

- Then set the keyboard on the server I am connecting to to my real keyboard (like swiss-french in my case). Then my mapping is correct.

Typically, I have this issue on a iDRAC9 with FW version 4.22.0.201, but I think all FW versions of iDRAC9 have this issue.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here. I'd be happy to take this information and forward it over for consideration. Before I do that, did you have any additional concerns, or did this cover it?
