idrac setup / shared ip
Hello I have some general questions about the idrac setup:
From what i believe, it is already installed on most of our servers. I know it is possible to setup via POST, but is their anyway to do this via serial so i need not restart production servers? If so, where can i documentation?
Secondly, In regards to setting up a shared connection, i guess i can't use the same IP as the actual server box? Or can i since it is still the same NIC port? Also, what type of performance decreases would i see, would it be only when im actually using the idrac remote connection?
Thanks for the help

Hi Giermo,
This setup video might be helpful.

Otherwise other iDRAC and LC documenation are here:

You can configure iDRAC through Serial. But this also need some setting on BIOS and iDRAC. If you server does not have the required BIOS setting you need to reboot the server to change BIOS setting. If your server have a LCD you can configure iDRAC IP using LCD module.
In shared connection iDRAC and System need to have separate IP address as both have separate MAC address. Performance decrease will be only observed when you use iDRAC remotely.

Awesome. Thanks so much to both of you.
Ill assume that as it idrac was never setup, that the serial port will not be configured.
As a result, i will wait to cycle down the machines, to when i need too anyhow lol.
