Installing Dell Management packs on fresh SCOM 2012 instance, issues..

I was handed a task to install SCOM 2012 to monitor a batch of servers, including Dell.  Problem I am running into is when I attempt to install the Management Pack from Dell it keeps asking me for the Dell Device Helper COM+ user/pass.  I put in the account we use for access to them machines but it doesn't work.  I've tried a few other user/pass's but nothing seems to work.  I am really new to Dell servers (first time I've dealt with them) so not sure what the problem is.  I can't seem to find the correct search to find a solution to this issue.

Can anyone offer some advice?

I apologize in advance if I am overlooking something obvious.

Hi

For extracting the MPs without providing the AD credentials, you can run the installer on your desktop/laptop (a non-Server version of Windows). The AD credentials are required for the configuration of a DLL, which is needed to the Servers using WS-MAN (termed Out-Of-Band Monitoring in the product literature).

Hope this unblocks you and enables you to proceed with your installation.

Thomas

PS I work for the Dell MP development team.

If you have more MP-related queries, for faster response, please post on http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4670.aspx (the OpenManage Integrations with Microsoft SCCM and SCOM forum )

Hello cstowell

According to the user's guide it requires a Domain Administrator user/pass like the one required to register a server on the Domain. A regular admin account will likely not work.

Thanks

This is an admin account with AD rights to create/remove system names as well as join/remove machines to the AD.

Any other ideas with how to resolve this issue? it is the last part needed to roll out my SCOM 2012.  Is there a direct line I could contact to obtain some help with this?

I have seen some odd behaviors if SCOM and the management packs are not at the latest version, but most likely you will need to use a full administrator account.  Often the system management utilities need full local rights for various features.

That's the problem here.  I need to install the MP's to allow SCOM 2012 to manage a group of servers (a few hundred) but because our highest account available to our group doesn't have some specific AD rights (which from what I've read are obviously undocumented) we can not extract the v5.0.1 of the Dell MP that are provided.  I find this rather frustrating in that it seems to get the MP's extracted and to a point that I could possibly import them into SCOM 2012, I would have to setup my own dummy AD server and point to that box to "fake" the install.  This is extremely off course from what should be allowed and that is to simply download the MP's as needed (like all previous versions that worked with SCOM 2007 and before).

This is becoming a proverbial Nail in the coffin on future Dell server recommendations as we are unable to properly manage them under SCOM 2012 without basically 'piecing' together things to get it to partially work.

Can someone that actually works with the Management Pack development/support try to help me with this?  I spoke with tech support on the phone and they were at a loss and had no real clue how to help.  Their research simply stated "You need to make sure the account is a member of the Operations Group...." no real explanation to explain this.

THANK YOU!!!!   This worked perfectly.

Did I miss this step in the documentation? Or was it an omission?

Again, Thank you very much.  Will be good to be able to move on with getting this SCOM 2012 setup.
