Location of Hardware log?

We have a number of dell power edge servers, 1850s 1950s, 2950s, 2650s.

We run our web servers on windows 2000 server, and run our database servers on windows 2003.

Now correct me if I am wrong as I am new to this area of servers, but the BMC logs everything, and then can send logs or alerts to a server running IT Assistant or to the local Open Manager software.

My question is, where can I see the hardware alerts/log files without having to use the dell software, does it post to a .log file or a txt file or something?

  Thanks for your help!

Thank you for posting. To query the BMC hardware logs, alerts, and so-on, you will have to use a tool that can query that functionality. The tools that we support that you can use are: Open Manage Server Administrator(local software), BMC Management Utility, and you can also look in the bios.

There is not a log in windows that our tools read to get their information. Our tools actually communicate with the firmware on the hardware. If you need more information concerning OMSA, BMC Utility, or ITA, please see the following links. Let us know if you have any other questions/issues. Thank you.

The hardware log (also known as the System Event Log, or SEL) is log in the firmware on the motherboard. It cannot be viewed through the bios, as mentioned above. The most common methods used to view the SEL are through Server Administrator and through the systems DRAC. Theoretically it can be view by running the diagnostics on the SEL. I say theoretically as it should pull the events out of the log, but in practice this isn't always the case.
