Not Receiving itaAlertSystemUp Notifications

I know this should be easy to set up but I'm having a nothing but problems trying to get it right.

I have an Alert Action Filter for Warning/Critical alerts.  This is linked to an Alert Action to send me an email notification when the action is triggered.  This seems to be working okay as I have been receiving critical alert notifications by email.  Most of the 'System Down' notifications occur due to a machine reboot durig off-hours and are expected.

What I would like to receive it a system alert indicating that the server is back up.  These are the alerts I am not getting.

If I add 'Normal' severity alerts to my alert filter in addition to the critical/warning alerts already defined, will I get innundated with emails?  Is adding 'Normal' to my existing filter the way to get the 'System Up' message?

Could I change the severity of the itaAlertSystemUp alert from 'OK' to 'Warning' so that it would come through my existing filter?  Or would that make all my devices appear in a warning state when viewing the device listing?

As you can probably tell, I'm in the process of learning my way around ITA and any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting!  If you go to Alerts -> Categories and Sources, you can locate the specific alert you want to receive, then make sure your filter will trigger by including the appropriate category and severity level.

Thanks.

If I go to Alerts -> Categories and Sources, and change the severity level for the itaAlertSystemUpEvent to Warning, I assume I would get the message send to me because I am being notified on all Critical/Warning messages.

What I am wondering, however, is that since I will now have the SystemUp event labeled as a Warning and not Normal, will all my servers show up with the Warning icon (instead of the green check) in the device list even though they are really up and in a Normal state?

Good question.  The answer is no:  your servers will show up as green in the Devices section.  I had to use this same tweak (elevating the severity to Warning) in order to get confirmation emails that servers had indeed come back up after reboots (since I also want to receive only Warning/Critical msgs).

While the device will show green, the device's Alert Log in ITA will show the "!" Warning symbol next to an entry stating that the itaAlertSystemUp trap was received.  Just ignore these.  HTH.
