overheated and shut down unexpectedly

Hi Dell,

I have a customer using dell - Dell R7615-XL

> Device overheated and shut down unexpectedly
> Instead of coming back up, it went to hibernation as a way to protect itself

This leads to these questions:
> Is the hibernation normal/ expected?

Hi @LEE888

Actually no, hibernation is not expected behavior for a Dell PowerEdge R7615 experiencing overheating.
A thermal event should trigger a hardware‑controlled shutdown, not OS hibernation.

If the system hibernated instead of shutting down, the cause is almost certainly:

  • OS‑level power configuration
  • Hypervisor‑level settings
  • Misinterpreted ACPI event

Hope that helps!
