PowerEdge 1400 ESM Access

I have a PowerEdge 1400 without a DRAC.  I was told in configuration class that the ESM could be examined, even if there was not a DRAC on the system, by Utilizing a Cross-Connected Cat5 cable and Hyper Terminal.  No details as to the procedure were supplied at that time.  After returning home and examining the configuration manual, I discovered it does not have a detailed procedure.  Can anyone supply the procedure and settings required to access the ESM on this system?

I am also looking for a DRAC II for my PowerEdge 4300.  If anyone has one available, please contact me.

Thank you for posting in the Dell forums

For the 1400sc there is no specific "ESM" for the SC models, it is included in the BIOS. However there is a server admin download that you can install. This may tell you if there are any hardware errors. You can download it from the link below

As far has the drac 2 goes, in order to use it you have to have older legacy versions of open manage. And in order to run these legacy version of the software, it can not be loaded on Windows 2003 with SP1 or SP2. We would need to know the enviornment in order to tell if we can get the drac working
