System Management with IT Assistant and OpenManage

Question

I've read through the documentation and browsed the forums and I still am a bit lost. I just started a Net Admin job for a Small corporation. Their network is fairly simple, it consists of 10 Dell PowerEdge servers, 4 PowerConnect switches and 30 Dell Optiplex/Dimension/Precision workstations.   I would like to somehow manage all Servers in order to roll out Software updates, bios updates, system configuration, etc. The same goes for managing the workstations and switches.   I've installed IT Assistant on my workstation, hoping to just detect all machines on the network and go obtain the information I need as well as perform the tasks I want to perform.   1. Is this possible to do with OpenManage and IT Assistant? 2. Do I need to install software on the Servers and Workstations in order for me to manage them with IT Assistant?   3. Are there alternatives using Dell software for me to achieve my goal?   Any help, adivice you offer is greatly appriciated.   thanks   Mark

Hi,     My knowledge is also somewhat limited, but I do have a little experience.     I have installed the latest version of IT Assistant on a dedicated machine (not a server) and I needed to install the latest version of Server Administrator on each of the servers.  It works fine, and there are some nice things you can do with it.     We primarily use it for on-going health of servers (sending alerts if problems arise) and basic inventory reporting.  We are not at the stage of pushing updates yet.   Regards,
