versantd.exe error when server starts

I'm new to using the Network Manager software. I installed it on a Windows 2003 server and when I restart the server after installing, Windows reports an application error. The Network Manager is displayed in the system tray with an "x". I connected to the new 3324 switch via the console port and set passwords successfully and can telnet or http to the switch but I entered the passwords the logon fails (I don't know what logon name to use however). I don't know if this has anything to do with the network manager. I have the latest updates applied to the server and downloaded the network manager a week ago. I looked for the versantd.log file I saw mentioned in another post but didn't find one. Any ideas on what went wrong?

The current version of OpenManage Network Manager is not supported under Windows Server 2003. It will not fully install properly in Server 2003, therefore, the verstant database and app server services are most likely not even starting.

The supported operating systems for the current version of Network Manager are:

Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows XP Professional.

Future revisions of Network Manager plan to add support for Windows Server 2003 and Linux.

I must have missed that Windows Server 2003 incompatibility warning during the installation of Network Manager on my new Dell server. It won't run (of course) but I also can't remove it. Any hints on how to get rid of it?

You can try using the manual uninstallation process listed below:

***Warning*** - Dell does not support editing the registry and is not responsible for any data loss or loss of productivity due to removal of services or registry entries. I suggest backing up your registry before attempting to manually edit or remove registry keys.

Manual Uninstallation:

If cleaning out an installation manually, do the following:

Stop these services:

  • net stop owprocman (Oware Process Monitor)
  • net stop versantd

Kill any remaining cleanbe processes with Windows Task Manager.

Remove environmental variables

Remove registry entries

Remove Start Menu shortcuts

Clean up TCP services - remove line(s) containing osc

Delete the installation directory

Reboot the system.

Technical Information:

The following are changes produced by the installation program:
