Android 5.0 Lollipop coming to the Venue 8 7840 Tablet.

It has been remarked on a few places in the forums that the Venue 8 7840 series doesn't ship with Lollipop.  I have been informed that Lollipop is expected to be available via OTA for the 7840 sometime in February

I will post again once I have specific dates when the OTA will be available and any information on the availability of Lollipop for other models of Dell tablets.

Currently the Lollipop OTA is expected on April 21 and it will be version 5.01.  I will post here if I receive any new information.

Thanks for keeping us updated on lollipop... I have another question though in regards to the YouTube app on the 7840. I can't only achieve a max resolution of 720p when the tablet is capable of 1440p. Any thoughts as to why?

Good to hear. Kind of disappointed that it wasn't equipped upon purchase...

Probably would have if it had been available at the time of purchase. So I guess either they could have waited until next week to sell the tablet, or they could have done what they did, and sell the tablet to you at the time you asked for it. Personally, I prefer to gotten mine last month. An old operating system that works beats a new one that isn't finished yet. We can still upgrade when Lollipop is available.

I'm curious to know that too. Just because you don't deem it necessary doesn't mean other people don't. Thanks.

I unfortunately have just received word that there has been a problem with the Android 5.01 Lollipop update scheduled for today and the OTA has been postponed. Dell is working on resolving any issues with the OTA and hopes to have it released as quickly as possible. The update for Lollipop is coming. I will continue to post any updates here as soon as I receive them.

Why would it matter what time? You said you're not trying to be a PIA, however that kind of question seems no necessary. We've all been eagerly awaiting this for a long time, what does a few more hours/days matter?

Thanks Terry for the update but this is absolutely ridiculous. I'm ditching this tablet ASAP. First it was supposed to ship with it, then it was February, then March, then today. Now I'm betting we won't see it at all in April.

Last time I ever buy a Dell anything. You guys have handled this tablet awfully. Shame on me for buying it to begin with. Next time you guys shouldn't make any promises you can't keep.

This is ridiculous.  Unless the problem is that it makes the tablet burst into flames just release it then patch whatever the problem is later.
