Venue 8 7840 Battery Issue
Venue 8 7840 purchased 11/2015 so is out of warranty. Battery drains from full charge to dead in 15 to 20 minutes and the unit shuts down. I then plug it into it's charger and in 10-15 minutes it shows a full charge. after rebooting. I monitor this through the "My Dell" app not the little battery icon. I have run the advanced battery check in the My Dell app and it passes. This started a about a week ago and no settings were changed or new apps downloaded.
Is the battery monitoring circuit defective resulting in false readings from the battery or is the battery defective? Any suggestions on the problem and fixes if any?

The Venue 8-7840 does not have an internal battery that you can remove and replace. If under warranty, Dell would simply issue a refurbished exchange. Although not supported by Dell, here is a 3rd party discussing disassembly.

Hi Chris, so dell sold a tablet with a defective battery that dies just after the 1 yr warranty and its not serviceable? Almost seems like planned obsolescence.
Will most of the posts on this forum about failed batteries in the 7840? Will dell address the issue or are we all, who are recently just out of warranty, out of dell luck?

Dell will follow the policy used for any out of warranty product.

I see that they are. Of course, that's dells choice. I think it will effectively put dell out of the tablet market for a long time as the word spreads of this premium failure of a tablet nobody will purchase dell tablets.
For a long time dell marketed surface type devices. No IT pro I know purchased the dell tablet when you could buy a surface computer. Why, dell has a rep for making unreliable, lower priced systems.
On the other hand, dell makes excellent servers. I use and have a strong preference for dell servers so you can see, I don't just have a dislike for dell products. I have several Alienware computers as well.
The reality here is that dell put out some bad hardware and isn't taking responsibility for the poor battery issue. I'm just hit harder than the average bloke because I bought 2 for my kids.
It's not just the cost of the venues, its the subsequent cost just over a year later for iPads to replace the failed venues. Thanks for that dell. You wont get me twice.
