WIFI Connection without SIM
Hi
Wonder if anybody can help? Recently bought a Dell Streak which looks great but I want to connect to the web on WIFI but it appears I can only do this with a sim card in place. Never actually wanted to Streak for anything other than easy access to the web when away from home without the necessity to go via Mobile Network on my phone's sim card.
Not sure if I am doing something wrong or succumbed to clever devious sales speak at the local distributor as there are far cheaper models in the marketplace to give me sim free web access .
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi DH,
Sorry it was of no help. I got my Streak direct from Dell and before I bought a sim I had it running on two different Wi Fi networks. It shouldn’t need a sim for the Wi Fi.
Is yours locked to a network? I can’t see how this would cause issue but I am out of ideas.
When you get to 4. Wi Fi networks what do you see?

Hi
Sales rep. was right it shouldn’t be an issue. You don’t need a sim to use the WiFi, its a totally separate function. Turn on WiFi and select your router from list, security info and off you go. Sorry if this is patronising I don’t know what you have tried.
1 MENU
2 Wireless & Networks
3 Wi Fi Settings
4 Wi Fi networks
5 Pick yours enter security
Ta Da, (I hope)

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your assistance.
Unfortunately this is still not working for me . To be clear I am not putting a SIM into the Streak at all, not simply disabling the Mobile Networks facility.
I must be doing something wrong but I have followed the exact steps as you have detailed

Hi
I am stumped, is the signal strength is ok? Do you have any security on the router?
