I have a problem on my Inpiron 1525. There is this MMC Dsk Device that keeps showing up on my lower tool bar. It is asking that I safely remove it but It just keeps popping up and making this annoying sound. I went to the device manager and under disk drives I found it, but it appears then disappears. It is under my hitachi disk drive. I actually caught it and clicked on it once and it was unable to start. What is this. I just bought this laptop on friday... Does this come with the inspiron 1525? Should I just get rid of it, or do I need this thing?

Hello Everyone. This post is in reference to the INSPIRON 1525. Let me clear up this Dilema once and for all. Please bare with me. I was working on a customers computer with different unrelated problems when i came across THIS little annoyance and of course had to pursue the problem. Some of you have kept Dell Tech Support pretty busy to try chasing down this problem by; installing software, allowing remote access, replacing motherboards, etc. etc. OK now for the fun stuff. THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE. THIS IS A HARDWARE / MANUFACTURING / DESIGN ISSUE that i have tested over and over with consistant results. Let me explain what is happening. There is a switch / sensor for the MMC disk device (or memory card reader). The 1525 is shipped with a blank (with no metal contacts where they would normally be on a real one). When a card is put into the slot, blank or real it is recocnized by the laptop. Now if you put in the BLANK, It will see that you put one in BUT immediately go off (and wont make the 'device removed' sound) and is immediately removed from devices. Its not real so it wont read it. Now if you insert a REAL card, it will read it and stay in devices. So you hear the 'new device inserted and/or removed' sound. Makes sense so far right? OK, Now the reason you hear the intermittent 'device added / removed' sound with the BLANK inserted is simple. The card is right below where most, if not all, people rest their hand. The front of the base of the 1525 (By the touchpad) is tapered and is a more plyable. When some people lean on it hard enough (it doesnt take much) when they're typing (or bending down the right corner) the card sensor / switch in the computer, right under your palm, is moved/shifted and the computer thinks there is a new card inserted and immediately removed from devices. (this only happens with the blank). So to recap, THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE. THIS IS A HARDWARE / MANUFACTURING / DESIGN ISSUE. You DO NOT need a new motherboard, nor drivers, or anything like that. DRIVERS OR NEW MOTHERBOARDS WILL NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN. Less pressure on the palm rests or not bending it will keep it from re-reading the blank. Which is kinda hard to do with that machine because of how thin it is. Hope this cleared up this issue for you all.

I just noticed that when I went to the MMC Device properties that it will connect to the computer for about 1 second (Device is working properly) then it will disconnect some how and I'll get a message saying that the device can not start or is not connected.

I never use connection utility tool. you can connect to the Unity by IPMITOOL. Then run svc_initial_config to config the mgmt ip address.
