Frequent DAE LCC Faults on Unity XT – Data Risk?

Hello,

We are currently running a Unity XT 880H with five 2.5-inch DAE enclosures.

Recently, we have been encountering frequent LCC-related issues on the DAEs, which has raised some concerns.

From my understanding, each DAE has dual LCC modules (A and B). If both LCC A and B fail on a single DAE, all disks within that DAE would become inaccessible, which is a critical issue. In addition, since the DAEs are daisy-chained, if both LCC A and B fail on the first DAE in the chain, it could also impact connectivity to the downstream DAEs, potentially making their disks inaccessible as well.

In such a situation, it seems possible that the RAID fault tolerance could be exceeded, leading to a RAID collapse.

I’m curious about how this scenario is typically handled:

1. Would the data in the existing storage pool still remain safe?
2. If the failed LCC modules are replaced, would access to the original data be restored?

If anyone has had similar experiences or can share insights on this, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Hello frey_ksg,

If you are having LCC errors it is vest to open a support case so that log can be pulled and reviewed to see what it causing the error. If you had both LCC fail at the same time then your data in most cases would not be accessible. Now that is not for all LCC errors and faults but that is most. Once the failed LCC have been replaced and are online all data should flow as normal as long as there is no other errors on your unity system that can prevent it.
