Recoverpoint - Empty LUN first ?
Hi,
Environment:
RecoverPoint (EX) Gen 5 RPAs, v5.1.4
Production Site: VNX 5800 + UnityXT 480
DR Site: VNX 5800 + UnityXT 680
Production LUN Size (10 TB)
This is a question about what order I should setup a new CG for RecoverPoint Replication.
Option 1:
Create new production LUN and DR target LUN
Create new RecoverPoint Consistency Group, enable, and wait for Init to complete
Note: With compression and deduplication turned on, it is taking a very long time to Init. Since the LUN is empty, shouldn't the Init be very fast ??
Once Init is complete, then start moving VM's onto the LUN (datastore)
Option 2:
Create new production LUN and DR target LUN
Storage VMotion VMs onto the new LUN (datastore)
Create new Consistency Group for the new production LUN and enable replication
What is the preferred method ? It seems that option 1 is taking a very long time to "seed" the empty LUN, and then it will take a long time again once I start moving data onto the LUN. So I think the answer is option 2.
Thoughts ?
Cheers, Jack...

Hello Jack,
Here is the link to RecoverPoint Administrator guide and if you look on page 246 it has some suggestions that can be done if your first-time initialization is taking too long. https://dell.to/2VajAwO
