Hi,

my NLSAS backup unity 300 has the following data:

• pool size = 28.2 TB
• block LUN size thick = 24 TB

the LUN is mapped with FC to a Server 2016 running veeam 9.5.The volume is NTFS formatted.

Yesterday, I`ve started with new backups to the mounted fc-drive which sits on the 24 TB LUN. Backup Size is now just 2.5 TB.

To prevent from ransomware, I decided to use LUN-snapshots for the 24 TB LUN after the veeam backup finishes. Unfortunately just after 1 snapshot, the almost whole pool size is consumed so that there are more than the 85% critical threshold used.

How can this be? I thought a snapshot would just need the 2.5 TB which are in use by veeam. Do I have to delete the thick LUN and use a thin LUN instead to prevent from this wasteful storage consumption of snapshots?

btw: is there a way to show the exact size of a snapshot? I only see that the pool is full, but how big a snapshot is can`t be found anywhere in unisphere. Are there other tools?
