Trying to configure CAVA on Unity.

Hi all,

I am trying to configure CAVA with a Unity array.

I have followed the documentation, as far as I can tell. I configured a domain user and I'm running the service on the windows server as this user. I have configured the viruschecker.conf file and uploaded it to the array and enabled the antivirus service for the NAS server on the Unity.

In the logs i am gettig the following error:

Virus checking is stopped because the virus checker server is not available.

The virus checker server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has encountered an error and is no longer operational.(Error: OFFLINE, httpStatus: 1021 Network is unreachable).

At the CLI I get:

14:26:20 service@(none) spb:~> svc_cava CIFSserver

1524061584: VC: 5: VDM CIFSserver: Enabled and Stopped.

1524061584: ADMIN: 6: Command succeeded:  viruschk

14:26:24 service@(none) spb:~> svc_cava CIFSserver -stats

1524061589: VC: 5: Total Requests: 0.

1524061589: VC: 5:

1524061589: VC: 5: NO ANSWER from the Virus Checker Servers: 0.

1524061589: VC: 5: ERROR_SETUP: 0.

1524061589: VC: 5: FAIL: 0.

1524061589: VC: 5: TIMEOUT: 0.

1524061589: VC: 5:

1524061589: VC: 5: 0 files in the collector queue.

1524061589: VC: 5: 0 files processed by the AV threads.

1524061589: ADMIN: 6: Command succeeded:  viruschk audit

I can ping the cava server from the Unity and vice versa, the CAVA service on the server is started.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

DJ

Hi,

sorry for posting on a thread that had been idle for 2 weeks. But have you installed the VNX/Unity CIFS Management Tools and setup the Virus Checking Group?

You need to create a local group on the NAS Server using the Local Users and Groups Snap-In for MMC, make your specified domain user a member of this group, then use the Plugin to connect to the NAS Server on the Unity and assign this group to the EMC Virus Checking policy. (Use "Look In" and select the NAS Server name)

This caught me out a couple of times until I wrote it down :-)

Regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your reply, I managed to get it working on another cifs server running on the same Unity. Not sure what the problem is with the first one but it doesn't seem to want to work.

I have the user, groups etc configured as per the documentation but it just wouldn't work. the Unity says that the AV server isn't available and the Unity NAS management snap-in shows the Antivirus as stopped, no matter what I done it wouldn't start. I can ping the AV server from both the Unity mgmt. and the CIFS server and vice versa.

I then enabled the service on another CIFS server on the same Unity and uploaded the viruschecker.conf file for it and it worked straight away. The only difference between the two viruschecker.conf files is the name of the cifs server.

Thanks again for your reply, If I ever figure out what the problem is I'll come back and posted here.
