unity usermapper range

Is there a document describing how to set a uid/gid range for the unity usermapper ? My experience is from VNX world and this was both possible and good practice to allow multiple devices on the same network not accidently use the same uid or gid ?

"Any Windows users that cannot be mapped by one of the above will not be able to connect"

that's a critical sentence, documentation is very much required !

Unity multi-protocol is quite different from VNX

usermapper is only active and used for CIFS only NAS servers

there is no concept of DM/cabinet/global usermapper so there is no uid/gid range configurable

For a multi-protocol NAS server you need to provide valid mapping through either:

    - LDAP or NIS

    - ntxmap

    - default Unix/Windows user (new in Unity)

Any Windows users that cannot be mapped by one of the above will not be able to connect

there should be a new manual about it available for the next release not too far away

I would suggest to first test extensively on a lab setup.

actually it the same if you would have followed the VNX/Celerra recommendations - they all said to disable usermapper via param cifs.resolver if you are doing multi-protocol.

    We just didnt enforce it.
