m610 ESXi Kernel Panics

Hello,

I have a 3 host cluster of m610 blades, in a m1000e enclosure, using a MD3200i SAN. I am running the Dell supplied ESXi 4.1.0 Update1 Build 348481.

Blade #1 has been running well.

Blade #2 and #3, Kernel Panic, at the same time, about every other week. It is strange this is only happening to blades #2 and #3, and that they go do down at the exact same time, with the same error (see attached).

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of my issues? Or, a good place to start looking for a cause?

Please let me know. Thank you!

Jim

Jim,

An Exception 14 is a Page Fault. kb.vmware.com/.../search.do

It can be caused by either a hardware or software issue. So it opens up many unfortunate possibilities.

On the software side:

  1. To root-cause if it is a software issue, the analysis involves collecting diagnostic info from the ESX hosts and submitting a support request.
  2. Here are the KB articles to Collect Diagnostic Info from VMware Software Solutions and How to Submit a Support Request.

On the hardware side:

  1. Please open a support case #.
  2. Diagnostics and event logs will be needed to root-cause if it is a hardware issue.

Does the CMC show any alarms/alerts for any of the hardware components of Server 2 & 3 like memory, etc? Does vCenter show any alarms/events for the M610 #2 or #3? Do you notice anything differences between Blade #1 vs #2 & #3?

Regards,

Kong Yang
