Multiple iSCSI Untis
Hi,
We have two MD3200i iSCSI units along with four ESX hosts.
My question relates to the configuration of the IP addresses on iSCSI ports.
Is it recommended to have both MD3200i iSCSI units using the same subnets so that all my ESX hosts will have access to both?
My configuration would be as follows, all with /24:
MD3200i 1
- C0 P0: 10.10.10.1
- C0 P1: 10.10.11.1
- C0 P2: 10.10.12.1
- C0 P3: 10.10.13.1
- C1 P0: 10.10.10.101
- C1 P1: 10.10.11.101
- C1 P2: 10.10.12.101
- C1 P3: 10.10.13.101
MD3200i 2
- C0 P0: 10.10.10.2
- C0 P1: 10.10.11.2
- C0 P2: 10.10.12.2
- C0 P3: 10.10.13.2
- C1 P0: 10.10.10.102
- C1 P1: 10.10.11.102
- C1 P2: 10.10.12.102
- C1 P3: 10.10.13.102
ESX 1
- iSCSI 1: 10.10.10.3
- iSCSI 2: 10.10.11.3
- iSCSI 3: 10.10.12.3
- iSCSI 4: 10.10.13.3
ESX 2
- iSCSI 1: 10.10.10.4
- iSCSI 2: 10.10.11.4
- iSCSI 3: 10.10.12.4
- iSCSI 4: 10.10.13.4
ESX 3
- iSCSI 1: 10.10.10.5
- iSCSI 2: 10.10.11.5
- iSCSI 3: 10.10.12.5
- iSCSI 4: 10.10.13.5
ESX 4
- iSCSI 1: 10.10.10.6
- iSCSI 2: 10.10.11.6
- iSCSI 3: 10.10.12.6
- iSCSI 4: 10.10.13.6
As you can see port 0 on both MD3200 units are in the same subnet as are the other ports, would this cause performance issues and is there another way to do this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dean,
Yes we have two switches for the iSCSI network which have vlans configured for each of the subnets.
Vlan trunking between the switches so each subnet on the MD3200 plugs into a both switches.
Then the two iSCSI ports of the ESX hosts are plugged into each switch, i try to distribute the subnets across both switches from the hosts.
This setup is working for me.
I found many examples for setups with one MD3200 but not with more, I too am no expert so was wanting to get advice.

Your setup is almost exactly like the one that I am setting up. Just got the 2nd MD3200i in last week.
I'm about to add my 2nd one as well and was thinking about doing it the same way. I am a NOVICE and this is my first SAN so don't take any advice from me.
Do you have dual switches as well?
