Quickref: Standard TCP/IP ports used by vOPS
Basically we communicate with the following systems over the network:
1. The virtual environment(s)
2. The database server(s) for our appliance(s)
3. Active Directory
4. SCOM
5. vOPS Licensing Server
6. vOPS Update Server
The ports we use to communicate with all of these services are the industry standard ports for each of them.
For vCenter/ESX: TCP 443,
For SQL Server: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287932
For Oracle: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B1...
For Active Directory: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/li...
Communication with SCOM is performed using the VKernel Hyper-V Collector service, which runs on a Windows machine. It communicates with the VKernel database (using whatever ports are appropriate for the DB in use) and then with SCOM via TCP port 1270. (Also the standard)
For obtaining licensing information from our license server, open TCP port 443 (SSL) to license.vkernel.com
For obtaining updates to the virtual appliance, open TCP port 80 (HTTP) to ftp.vkernel.com (The hostname is misleading. The protocol used is HTTP)
If these ports are all open and you're still having connectivity problems, see the network troubleshooting guide here:
