Since you say the problem occurs " A fter about 3-4 hours of the laptop being continuously on", is it possible that this is a hardware/overheating problem?

The bottom of my laptop does get very hot.  Will this message pop up when it gets too hot on the bottom?  I called tech support before and they had me shut down the laptop, take out the power cord, pop out the memory cards and depress the power button for 15 seconds.  But the problem persists.  It this is an overheating problem, any resolution for this problem?

i'm just offering a "gut" feel about your problem.... it just sounds more like an overheating problem, than a software (specifically, virus) problem.
 
here are a few questions you might want to consider?  (not that I'm actually asking you to answer them here... just ponder them):   does you laptop have a fan?  if so, is it running properly?  and do you have adequate ventilation around it?   what about your working/environmental conditions? --- what's the temperature/humidity where you work/live?  and are you operating your system in direct sunlight?
 
i think you might have a better chance getting an answer to your problem by posting your question in another forum.... my suggestion would be the Inspiron - General Hardware forum, here:

Check for viruses and spyware. If you don't find any, this helped me: Boot into safe mode Start > Run enter “msconfig” disable everything and see if problem goes away. (boot.ini, services, startup items) If it does, re-enable things until the symptom reappears and troubleshoot the boot.ini, or service, or startup item causing the problem. McAfee Antivirus has been at fault in the past. You’ll need to boot into safe mode to run msconfig again once the symptom comes back. Once you've isolated the components that are causing the problem, you'll need to figure out how to reinstall those components. If that doesn’t help, A rootkit detected by AVG anti-rootkit was found to be the problem in a few cases.

the original poster, Jeda_Knight, has not visited the DELL forums since 08-26-2005  ,
and it's very unlikely that the particular problem is still lingering to the present.
