stop packaging McAfee
Please stop packaging McAfee with your computers! McAfee is frequently a hassle to remove. The last two times I have purchased a Dell laptop I have had troubles removing the McAfee.

I have a new XPS 8960 and wish to replace McAfee with Bitdefender or similar and want to know if I can do this without affecting my Dell warranty.
Also, having had such trouble to remove McAfee from a previous computer, I'm not looking going through that much trouble again.

Use McAfee's removal tool by following Option 2 here.

@RoHe ,
Thanks, I used the windows uninstaller first, then McAfee removal tool. All seemed to go quite smoothly, but I don't know what, if anything of McAfee could remain on my system or if that matters.
I used to use Revo Uninstaller, but ran into trouble with it once when it removed things that appeared to be required by another programme, so not used it since.

If you search your boot drive, you'll probably find a bunch of McAfee and/or LiveSafe leftovers that neither Windows Add/Remove nor the McAfee tool can remove.
I had about a dozen (+/-) things left over. Some were image files (png, jpg etc) which were easy to delete plus some other items. You can right-click and delete those that let you, but not all of them will, unless your user profile take ownership of those files away from Trusted Installer. CAUTION: this can be risky so you do it entirely at your own risk.
If the leftovers don't take up too much disc space, it's probably fine to leave them there. Or, just do a complete clean install of Windows and all your apps, minus McAfee.

@RoHe,
Thanks, that's interesting. I think while I'm not aware of them giving me any trouble, I'll leave well alone, especially as I have a track record of making things worse by trying to make them better.
