It seems to me that the KILL TASK function is no longer working in the new WinPatrol 2011 (20.0.2011) [at least, not for Win XP (SP3)]. When I uninstalled, and reverted to back to WinPatrol 2010 (19.x), that one is fine.

Anyone else notice this???

thanks for the confirmation.   It's definitely not working on one --- and I believe 2 --- XP SP3 systems here.   So I didn't think it could just be a "fluke" with my security/configuration.   While I don't use that feature frequently, I do make occasional use of it.

In my experience, WinPatrol seems to be more effective at (successfully) killing tasks than WIndows Task Manager.

I've tried notifying BillP via WinPatrol's e-mail, and Facebook page.

I'm wondering... so much of the new features/tweaking/repairing of WinPatrol 20 (and even the updates of 19) seem to be because of problems/fixes with x64-bit systems and/or Win7 features.  If so, I may wind-up keeping [the original] v19  around "in perpetuity".

For now I'm keeping v.20, and hoping for a quick fix.

I'm seeing the same as ky331 on XP Pro/sp3: KILL TASK isn't working with v.20 of WinPatrol Plus.

It works just fine on Win 7 Pro.

Nice pick up. I must admit I've never used, nor needed to use KILL TASK before.

You are correct. Unable to kill a task with WP 20 running XP pro Spk 3.

Furthermore; When I uninstalled the old version, I got an alert that Win Patrol was not responding, however it uninstalled without problems. I tried the same with WP v20 and I got same results. It could be my machine, but I uninstalled a couple more different programs without the alert, so...

I certainly don't mind you posting a link elsewhere to here, as it only serves to expedite the matter... that is, as soon as BillP returns from vacation.   As far as I'm concerned, we're all a big cooperative team here :-)

As for the uninstall error message, did you EXIT WinPatrol before trying to uninstall it ??

As I posted at Security Cadets, I do not have a Windows XP SP3 to test on. Kill Task works on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Since Bill is currently traveling and unavailable, he will not be available to address this at least until late in the week. Yes, I did. As always It is a good custom to stop the program from running before uninstalling.

Funny, I did a sfc /scannow and did not fine anything wrong.

It's not just you. When I attempted to uninstall WP v.20 I got the same MS alert about WP having encountered an error, and needing to shut down. I ignored it, and the uninstall was succesful. I re-installed 19.3.2010.5:19.3.2010.5, and the Kill Task now works.

Thanks to Corrine and Andy (at Security Cadets) for their help and prompt responses to sort this out.

I'm beginning to come around to ky's theory that WinPatrol is being developed for Vista and Win 7 at the expense of XP. I suppose it is even inevitable. This is not the first function of WP that I have found that no longer works with XP. For example, when I use Explorer to find an executable file in XP, a right-click on that file opens a context menu that includes "WinPatrol PLUS Info ...". Clicking on that generates a "Access is denied" alert. This does not happen in Win 7.

Joe I did not try the explorer function with WP V.20, but it works, at least in mine, in V.19. I can open W Explorer look for a file and right click it and then click " WinPatrol Plus Info.." bringing the WP web page with the information on that file. As a matter of fact I believe that you mentioned it before long time ago in one of your post and I replied that it was working in mine, I think. 

Here's [at least most of] the changelog/history information for WinPatrol 2010 (verison 19.x) .   ONE fix for win XP; FOUR fixes for x64 bit machines:

* HiJackLog updated to show correct description for Windows 7 even thought technically it's reported as version 6.
* Setup program was fixed to turn off debug mode which created two text files which aren't needed.

• * WinPatrol 19.1
  Fixed problems on Windows 64 bits systems. Not all Startup programs were being detected and displayed. Some programs were also missing Date Detected values which will be initialized on install of this version.
  Default icons are now displayed when no program icon exist.
