Can we expand a meta dev in VMAX

Can we expand meta dev(500GB) to 1TB. Does it will have any impact to data or something. What rules i need to follow.

ok, just wanted to check because on *nix platforms you typically do not expand devices, you present new devices and let OS logical volume manager to manage it internally.

In all of the ECN quetions. I am seeing that they are telling to create BCV devices. Is it for taking backup of Raid 10 STD device.

Please correct me if i am wrong with below procedure.

1. Check the device size and Meta member (Let say 128GB)

2. We need to have backup of this device. To make sure if anything happens.(Create 128GB BCV raid 10)

3. We need to create new hypers(Devs) with same meta memebers as source.

4. Then we need to expand with protect_data as true.

Its a striped meta

Is this is correct procedure.

Does it impact anything to data if we extend.

Can we do on the fly with any interuption to production device
