cannot remove devices from storage group on Vmax

Vmax family, I am trying to remove devices from a strorage group and I get this error " The view cannot have empty storage/port group" . I am using the symaccess cmd.  Do I have to delete the masking view? How does it work if you want to remove only some devices from a SG and not all.

Thanks,

RP

so you are completely decommissioning a server, in that case delete the masking view first and then try to remove all devices from the group (don't forget to add -unmap).

you should be able to remove all devices but the last one without any issues. When last device is left youn can delete the storage group with -force

Many thanks Dynamox. Trying to understand the symmask vs symaccess cmds. When you unmask the devices by removing the devices from the storage group, do I have to delete the masking view as well? We are going to decommission the existing servers and hence device removal from SG.

With ECC, under maskng view, when you expand the PG, you see devices other than the devices in SG. Deleting the masking view using ECC, will it result in unmapping all the devices mappd to that port under a masking view or just the devices in SG? Appreciate your input in this regard.

Thanks,

RP
