Deduplication and compression

Hi,

The .have read many documentation regarding understanding of data deduplication and compression on VNX storage array.I have VMAX 20K storage array where I would like to know whether is it possible to implement data deduplication and compression technically. Please provide your suggestion and feedback are there any limitation and requirement for this to enable both the thing.

Just wanted to know whether this kind of solution can be implmented on VMAX 20 K storage frames.

Thank You.

Deduplication is not supported on VMAX family. I will only hear this term with SYMM when we implement Recoverpoint with VMAX and enable data deduplication from RP side (This feature was introduced in RP 3.4Sp1p1.k140)

Compression is available on VMAX series (SEv7.5 and ucode 5876Q42012) when you implement Thin provisioning. You can enable compression on thin pool level (set pool attribute) . FAST VP also supports compression if you enable it from FAST VP control parameters (you must enable it on the pool level first).

For RDF, we have sw compression and hw compression ( for compressing the data across the RDF links).

For further information about compression on VMAX you can check SE v7.5/SE v7.6 array controls guide.

Hope it helps

Compression is available, but I would not recommend using it for data that you plan to access much, as there is a performance hit for uncompressing it.
