As you have already mentioned the ability to do a test dial home is within the SymWin application and customers do not have access to it. However, we do have an automated process SYR that logins/tries to connect to Symm(every 7 days) to run some inventory scripts. If for some reason, SYR fails to connect to Symm then it raises a ticket with support to check why SYR failed to connect and you will know if symm is not able to dialhome or accept incoming connection from emc.
Log into the Policy manager you should have installed as well. Policy manger polls devices every few minutes and if a device misses 4 polls it is flagged as missing; PM then opens a case with EMC to investigate.
Just check with you local account team to make sure it is able to dial out and they can dial in. This should be done anyway to verify its working.

Login to you ESRS server and open the ESRS application and see if you are connected to EMC and if you are connected to the symmetrix.
If both are showing connected fine then there should be no problem
