TimeFinder clone in VMAX

Hi all,

Can anyone please help me in understanding the timefinder clone process. Once i have created the clone relationship between source and tgt and used -precopy option, is there any performance impact on the source device as it is being accessed by the host as well as a background copy to tgt device is going on.

The purpose of the precopy option is to prevent the copy process from placing a performance impact on the source device.

The background copy used during a precopy scans the device for tracks that need to be copied. If a track on the source is being written when it comes to be copied, the background copy will skip it and then come back to it when the write is complete.  The process will keep looping through the device looking for tracks that need to be copied until the session is activated.  Tracks that are wr written to again after they have been copied, will be copied again on subsequent loops.

When the session is finally activated, it is likely that there will be a small number of tracks that will need to be copied to the target, and the enginuity consistency assist will kick in and pause i/o temporarily to the source while those remaining tracks are copied to the target to ensure the data in the target is consistent.
