U4VMAX Local VS. Remote? (client\server)
Hi All,
I have a question that was asked to me by a customer and would like to leverage all of your expertise and experiences. Customer asked what would be a EMC's best practices advised in regards for either installing a client\server remote unisphere install or a local symapi install. They want to know essentially which enviroment is better performance for data collection... They noticed that on the client\server model, the host cannot ingest a large number of luns (17k-20k), where as on the local host install, the same arrays are ingested with no issues.. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I would recommend or rather choose going with the local install as its performance is any day better when compared to the remote ones i have seen till date.
One simple reason would be that i would have to look at lesser components while managing/upgrading the setup. If i were in client mode, i would have to look at UNIVMAX, the SE on the same server and the SE on SYMAPI server (the one that has GK's) before considering any change or upgrade. As i said, performance of UNIVMAX in local is better than that in remote mode.
Regards,
Roshan Raju.

Unisphere for VMAX supports a deployment using symapi in a client/server mode, but you will find that the response time is significantly slower than a local symapi install with locally attached gatekeepers. Unless it can't be avoided I would always recommend local symapi deployments for a management host.

So I basicaly see where the general consensus is heading in that local is always better and it would make sense since the local has the GK and is directly attached to the frame.. Thanks everyone for your input!!!
