VMAX Performance Data Collection
Hi all
I would like to understand what tools are now available for collecting configuration and performance data for EMC VMAX and EMC DMX4.
My understanding is that there are a wide array of tools available but I would like a definitive list and to also understand if there are whitepapers created to describe the process.
The current list I have is below and is segmented due to what I feel are new/latest tools and the legacy tools (which will no longer exist but still exist today). SYMCLI is not new but obviously has not being replaced and will continue to do so.
- Unisphere for VMAX
- Prosphere
- SYMCLI
- SMC
- SPA
- ECC
In any case I would like to confirm firstly if the above list is accurate and if these tools can provide you with both configuration and performance data in the event of an outage.

If you want a copy of your configuration data, good way is to run EMCreports / EMCgrab on your management server and store the file offsite.
It contains lots of symcli output to show your config, but also a copy of the symapi_db.bin and a backup of your masking database. Make sure you use the current version of this tool.
I think you have nailed it with the list of performance collecting tools.
