VMAX - Thin Provisioing - Unmask Device from one hosts

Hi   Guys,

I have one cluster allcoation with cascaded IG  to a Cluster SG and Cluster  PG. now i have got request from custer to remove teh devioces from only one host without impacting(taking downtime) the other host?  please note that there are few cluster(shared) devices that still need to be untouched.

any suggestion?

I'm assuming that the SG and PG are in the view with the parent IG and thus masked to all of the hosts simultaneously.  If you have a need to remove access for all of the devices from just this one host you could modify the IG to remove just that host's initiators.  By doing so the other cluster nodes would maintain access to the disk, while the one host would temporarily lose access to any symdev's in that view.

Would this suffice for your request?  Or do you need to maintain access to some of the devices in that view on the one host?

if you are using cascaded initiator group , you need to remove that specific host's initiator group from the cascaded initiator group. If you have devices that are presented to individual cluster members, they need to be in different views, storage groups ..etc.

thanks dynamox..

the idea was not to bring down teh cluster before removing the luns from one of teh single hosts.. by taking downtime we can acheived by create a separate view for teh other hosts..

one  more thing i need to clarify here..  if the a same device is masked twice to a host will that get two different Host LUN ID or the  will it be consistent?

not sure, you can force specific host id by using -lun when you add devs to the storage group
