What commands to find out VMAX/DMAX model?
# symcfg list -status
The result shows me that I have DMX4-24 and VMAX-1.
Based on my limited knowledge, I have model of DMX4, but what is “24” for, and what model of VMAX I have? I only know VMAX-10K and VMAX-2K, what is “1” for here?
Any other commands I can use to show me details on models?

So, in this case I have 24 DA pairs=48DA's? what flavors (1500,2500,3500,4500) do I have?
Why am I getting the following error?
# symcfg show -v
Invalid number of keywords.

The DMX-4 came in 4 flavors, 1500,2500,3500 and 4500. The first digit is the number of DA pairs you have in the system.
For the VMAX, you could try symcfg show -v and see what you get.
I'm pretty sure the VMAX-1 is the first VMAX or the VMAX-20K.

No, the max is 8 DA boards or 4 pairs.
symcfg list -DA all will show the DA CPUs. So you can see how many you have. Each board has a unique number

So you have a DMX4 4500 and a 4 engine VMAX which should be a 20K (VMAX1)

As the result of running command "symcfg list -DA", on VMAX-1, I have 32 DF's, 8x(A,B,C,D), the same on DMX4-24 as well.
Does that mean I have 8 DA borads, and each has 4 CPU's?
I am sorry, but I am still not sure of what "24" is after DMX4-, and how would that be related to flavors of 1500,2500, etc.

You can check in the inventory list updated with your site ID. EMC has good track of your products....
There are scenarios that you might not have all the DA's are populated / configured.

now that is a really funny statement, IB (install base) is so mocked up at EMC that every year they are trying to get me to pay maintenance for product we decommed 5 years ago.

The "24" after DMX4- refers to the number of slots in the card cage. The card cage houses the slots that contain the boards (e.g. FA boards, DA boards, and memory boards. In a 1500, 2500, 3500, or 4500, there are 24 slots in the card cage. The entry level DMX4 is the DMX4 950, and it only has six slots -- so for a DMX4 950, you'd see DMX4-6.
