6+2 or 14+2 for RAID-6 RGs
Hi Everyone,
I am involved in a LUN design where a VNX is to be used as a backend storage for CCTV. All disks are NL-SAS, and given the rather large sized LUNs required, we have opted to go with RAID Groups with Meta LUNS rather than use Storage pools. However we are debating which is the best size for the RAID groups - Would it be 6+2 or 14+2 ? We are more inclined towards the former as using 8 disk RGs would enable us to use all disks effectively ( a 16 disk RG would leave a few disks unused).
Can someone offer us some sound advice on this regard, please ?
Regards,
Naleendra

Hello Naleendra,
What is the RAID type you will use?
How can you describe the behavior of CCTV applications? Is it read or write intensive applications?

i can think of rebuild times, 14+2 will take a looooong time to rebuild in the mean time impacting LUN performance.
