Changing a MV iSCSI IP Address without full re-sync

Is it possible to change the MV iSCSI IP address on SPB for both arrays without having to re-sync all data again.

Could someone provide steps if they have done this?

My plan is to fracture mirrored LUNs on SPB, break the MirrorView Connection between arrays and then change the IP on both arrays and then hopefully partial re-sync but I don't have a system to check this on  before I recommend to customer.

The reason is that both SPA and SPB MV ports are currently in the same subnet and there is a KB article called Troubleshooting MirrorView iSCSI latency issues which says that having both ports in same subnet is not good. Although no other documentation mentions this. Article 185451. Can't seem to post a link here.

I looked at all the KB's for mirroview (listed in KB 17061) and did not see any that specifically address you requirement.

I think you may be able to do this but it would require that all hosts be off line - it would require that you fracture all the mirrors, then destroy the mirrors, make the changes, then create the mirrors linking the original Source LUNs to the secondary image, but not choosing the "Initial Sync" option. I've seem this done once on a CX4 mirrorview setup and it worked. The key is making sure that NO changes take place to the source LUN during this time.

I also remember the mirrorview group saying that this was NOT supported.

I don't want to destroy all the Mirrors and risk doing it this way. Especially as I can't stop I/O on the production servers.

As I only need to change the iSCSI IP address on both SPBs I was hoping that MV would continue over the SPA link and this could all be done without taking down hosts etc....

Worst case failover all the SPB LUNs to SPA so they continue replicating over that link while I change SPA link.

Guess I need to open a support case with EMC to confirm if this can be done.

I spoke with one of our Mirrorview people and I was wrong. He said you can change the IP addresses without destroying the mirror as I said earlier.

Go to the Data Protection section and on the right, select "Manage Mirror Connections" and disable the connection to the other array:

Then on the "Connections Between Storage Systems" delete the connection - you need to do this on both arrays - that way when you make a new connection between the arrays, a new connection record will be created.

Now you can change the IP's for the ports on each array, then use the ping to check connectivity between the two arrays (Settings/Network - right click on the SP port and select Tools/Ping). Once you can ping from each array to the other array then go back to Data Protection and "Manage Mirror Connections", find the new path in the right side windows, select it and click Add. This will create the new connections and you should be able to go to each mirror and Sync.

Full Sync is not required - when you remove the connection between the two arrays, the mirrors will Admin fracture - once you have the connections back up, you just need to Sync the secondary image - it will update any changes while fractured.

Just to let you know. Followed the procedure above on Friday night and all worked fine and as expected. No full re-sync required and all carried on without issue after changing the IPs. Thanks for your help.
